Bay Area, Monterey Bay atmospheric river to bring heavy rain, winds up to 60 mph

The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Advisory for the Bay Area and Monterey Bay, effective 10 p.m. Wednesday through 10 a.m. Thursday, as an atmospheric river storm brings heavy rain and strong winds.

Southeast winds of 15–25 mph, gusting up to 50 mph, are expected, with coastal areas under a High Wind Warning for gusts up to 60 mph, raising risks of downed trees, power outages, and hazardous travel.

Rainfall will increase Wednesday, peaking late Wednesday into early Thursday, with 1.25–5 inches in the North Bay, 0.75–2.25 inches in the East Bay, 1.25–3.5 inches in San Francisco and the Peninsula, and 0.75–5.25 inches in Monterey Bay.

Residents are advised to secure loose objects and prepare for dangerous conditions, CBS News has reported.

The storm will also bring rain to the Sacramento Valley and snow to the Sierra Nevada, where a Winter Storm Watch is in effect for elevations above 5,000 feet from Thursday morning through Friday.
