Millions face 1st deep freeze and snow of the season

A powerful cold front is bringing the season’s first deep freeze and significant snow across much of the U.S., from the Midwest to the Northeast and South.

Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, and Michigan saw over a foot of lake-effect snow on Monday, with hundreds of emergency calls reported, while flurries reached as far south as Nashville, Tennessee, and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

The snow moved east on Tuesday, hitting Buffalo, Syracuse, and parts of Pennsylvania, with Hydetown recording 12+ inches and Central Square over 11 inches, while New York City saw light snow and gusty winds reducing visibility.

Winter weather advisories remain in effect, including 3–5 additional inches expected in Buffalo, as freezing temperatures spread across the Northeast and South, ABC News has reported.

Wind chills in Southern cities will make it feel as cold as the 20s to mid-30s, affecting places from Jacksonville, Florida, to Charlotte, North Carolina.
