Donald Trump has threatened to sue the BBC for allegedly editing his January 6, 2021, speech to make it appear more radical, claiming the broadcaster “defrauded the public.”

The legal threat follows Panorama’s broadcast last year, which spliced together clips from different parts of his speech, and comes as a deadline looms for the BBC to respond.

The controversy contributed to the recent resignations of BBC Director General Tim Davie and BBC News head Deborah Turness.

While the BBC has apologized for the misleading edit, legal experts doubt Trump’s chances of success under Florida’s libel laws, and any settlement could be politically sensitive due to the BBC’s public funding, The Guardian has reported.

The case has reignited internal BBC tensions, including criticism from former adviser Michael Prescott, though he denies political motivation behind his memo highlighting alleged bias.
