A fast-moving wildfire in Mono County, California, near the Nevada border has damaged 15 structures, prompted evacuations, and forced the closure of part of Highway 395.
The Pack Fire, driven by winds up to 50 mph, had spread to 5.3 square miles with no containment as of Thursday night.
Emergency aircraft were temporarily grounded due to the strong gusts, though precipitation later helped reduce fire activity.
Evacuation shelters were set up at a middle school and the Tri-County Fairgrounds, and additional firefighting resources are arriving, NBC News has reported.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and authorities continue to monitor impacted areas including an RV park in McGee Creek.
