Firefighters from multiple agencies battled a massive fire at a decommissioned power plant near Galveston, Texas, which sent a large black plume of smoke over several nearby cities.

The blaze, reported early Sunday, involved two cooling towers and power lines, prompting authorities to advise residents to avoid the area and limit exposure to smoke.

No injuries have been reported, and the fire was largely contained by Sunday afternoon, with crews managing additional spot fires around the plant.

Air quality monitors showed safe readings, though officials continued to warn residents to stay clear of the site, ABC News has reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and the power plant had been decommissioned in the 1990s.
