Trump to meet with New York Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani at White House on Friday

President Donald Trump announced he will meet with New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani at the White House on Friday, November 21.

Mamdani, a 34-year-old democratic socialist who defeated former Governor Andrew Cuomo in both the primary and general elections, requested the meeting.

Trump, who had endorsed Cuomo and threatened to withhold federal funds if Mamdani won, referred to Mamdani as a “communist mayor” in a Truth Social post, a label Mamdani denies.

Mamdani’s office said the meeting will focus on public safety, economic security, and affordability issues for New Yorkers, including childcare, rent, energy costs, and public transportation, reflecting concerns raised by voters in the recent election, CNBC has reported.

Mamdani emphasized he plans to speak plainly with Trump about the struggles facing the city.
