The United States has proposed a new plan to end Russia’s war in Ukraine that would require Kyiv to cede territory in the Donbas, reduce its military by half, and abandon certain weapons, according to multiple news reports.
The framework, reportedly developed in consultation with Russian officials, has been described as heavily tilted toward Moscow and favorable to President Vladimir Putin.
Ukrainian officials called the plan a “non-starter” without significant changes, as it mirrors many Russian demands and would roll back U.S. military assistance.
The proposal also includes recognizing Russian as an official language in Ukraine and granting official status to the Ukrainian branch of the Russian Orthodox Church, Al-Jazeera has reported.
Russia has denied any new peace plan exists, emphasizing that official channels, not media reports, should guide negotiations.
