Trump signs executive order launching AI initiative being compared to the Manhattan Project

President Donald Trump signed an executive order establishing the “Genesis Mission,” a federal initiative to accelerate American artificial intelligence research, development, and scientific applications.

The program aims to expand computational resources, centralize access to federal datasets, and apply AI to critical scientific challenges, including advanced manufacturing, biotechnology, and nuclear energy.

Michael Kratsios will lead the effort, while the Department of Energy will create the “American Science and Security Platform” to support AI research and public-private partnerships.

The initiative builds on the National Artificial Intelligence Research Resource (NAIRR), which brings together federal agencies and private companies to advance AI infrastructure and innovation, NBC News has reported.

Recent actions, such as partnerships with AMD and Hewlett Packard Enterprise to expand supercomputing capacity, underscore the administration’s push to maintain U.S. leadership in AI.
