French authorities believe they have arrested the fourth and final member of the team that stole France’s crown jewels from the Louvre in a dramatic daylight heist on October 19.
The 39-year-old suspect, who has a criminal record, now faces preliminary charges of organized robbery and criminal conspiracy for his alleged role in the €88 million theft.
Police say the robbery was carried out by a four-person team who used angle grinders, disguises, and a freight lift to break into the Apollo Gallery before fleeing on motorbikes.
Three other suspected robbers were arrested in October, along with a woman accused of complicity, though she denies involvement, the AP has reported.
Investigators are still searching for the unrecovered jewels, which include historic pieces tied to French royalty, as the Louvre moves to strengthen its security after what its director called a “terrible failure.”
