Federal agents begin immigration operations in New Orleans and Minneapolis

The Trump administration launched immigration enforcement operations in New Orleans and Minneapolis, targeting individuals alleged to have criminal records or immigration violations.

In New Orleans, DHS said the operation focuses on people released after arrests for crimes including home invasion, armed robbery, and rape, citing “sanctuary policies” that prevent local authorities from honoring ICE detainers.

The raids have sparked fear among immigrant communities, with many avoiding work, school, and daily activities, leaving children dependent on neighbors for support.

Louisiana officials, including Republican Gov. Jeff Landry, welcomed the intervention, despite the city having historically low crime rates, NBC News has reported.

In Minneapolis, enforcement coincides with Trump’s recent comments on Somali immigrants and Rep. Ilhan Omar, though ICE officials said they are not specifically targeting Somalis, even as the administration has paused immigration applications from 19 countries.
