A federal judge in New York, Richard Berman, granted the Justice Department’s request to unseal grand jury records from Jeffrey Epstein’s 2019 sex trafficking case.
The decision follows last month’s passage of the Epstein Files Transparency Act, which requires the DOJ to release all records related to Epstein while protecting victims’ identities and sensitive information.
Berman emphasized that disclosure must not compromise the privacy or safety of sexual abuse survivors and cited the law’s clear instructions on withholding personal and medical files.
Epstein, who died by suicide in 2019 while awaiting trial, has been at the center of numerous investigations and conspiracy theories, NBC News has reported.
The timing for the release of the materials remains unclear, though similar grand jury records for Ghislaine Maxwell were ordered released the day prior.
