Storm drops heavy snow around Northeast as Pacific Northwest braces for more rain

A weekend storm brought heavy snow to the Northeast and plunging subzero temperatures to the Midwest, causing slick roads and widespread travel disruptions.

The New York-New Jersey area received its first significant snowfall of the season, while crews worked overnight in New Jersey and Pennsylvania to clear roads and reduce speed limits.

Over 1,000 U.S. flights were delayed, with more than 100 cancellations due to the storm.

Arctic air from Canada pushed temperatures in the northern U.S. as low as -22°F (-30°C), with Minneapolis recording -10°F (-23°C), the AP has reported.

Meanwhile, the Pacific Northwest, recently hit by catastrophic flooding, faced additional rain and wind as forecasters warned of worsening conditions.
