ChatGPT has become one of the internet’s 40 most popular websites, reflecting the rapid growth of generative AI, according to a Cloudflare report.

Despite Google, Facebook, and Instagram remaining dominant overall, ChatGPT’s rise was highlighted as the year’s defining story for online activity.

Launched by OpenAI in November 2022, ChatGPT had 700 million active users as of September.

Cloudflare also reported a 19% increase in global internet traffic this year as more people relied on technology for communication and entertainment, CBS News has reported.

The rankings were determined using aggregated data from Cloudflare’s Domain Name System, which directs internet traffic to websites.
