The International Criminal Court (ICC) appeals chamber has rejected Israel’s attempt to block an investigation into its actions in Gaza, allowing the probe to continue.
The court upheld a lower court ruling permitting the ICC prosecutor to investigate alleged crimes following the Hamas-led attack on southern Israel on October 7, 2023.
Israel argued that events after October 7 constituted a new situation requiring a fresh notification, but judges ruled that the original 2021 notification already covered subsequent events, keeping arrest warrants for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant in place.
Israel does not recognize the ICC’s jurisdiction and denies committing war crimes, Al-Jazeera has reported.
Meanwhile, ongoing violence in Gaza has resulted in tens of thousands of Palestinian casualties since October 7, 2023, with at least 391 killed and over 1,000 wounded since the latest ceasefire on October 11, 2025.
