A train carrying 250 people derailed in southern Mexico near Nizanda, killing at least 13 and injuring 98, officials reported.
The Interoceanic Train, traveling between Oaxaca and Veracruz, went off the rails while navigating a curve.
Of those on board, 139 were reported out of danger, while 36 injured passengers remained under medical care, with at least five in serious condition.
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum ordered senior officials to assist victims’ families, and the Ministry of Interior is coordinating the response, Al-Jazeera has reported.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause, while emergency units faced challenges reaching the accident site due to the difficult terrain.
