China fires several rockets around Taiwan during live military drills

China launched rockets toward Taiwan on Tuesday as part of the second day of large-scale military drills, which included a simulated blockade of the island.

The exercises, called “Justice Mission 2025,” involve navy destroyers, bombers, live-fire drills, and anti-submarine maneuvers in five maritime and airspace zones, some within 12 nautical miles of Taiwan’s coast.

Taiwan reported tracking 130 Chinese air sorties, 14 naval ships, and eight other vessels, while domestic and international flights faced cancellations and delays.

The drills come shortly after the U.S. announced an $11.1 billion weapons package for Taiwan and are framed by China as a warning against separatist forces and foreign interference, Al-Jazeera has reported.

Analysts warn that the unprecedented scale of these exercises, including simulated port blockades, signals rising tensions and lowers the threshold for potential conflict between China and Taiwan.
