Dennis Hamlin, father of NASCAR driver Denny Hamlin, died Sunday in a house fire in Stanley, North Carolina, officials confirmed.
His wife, Mary Lou Hamlin, was hospitalized in Winston-Salem with burn injuries.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and the home was completely destroyed after burning for about two hours.
Both Dennis and Mary Lou were outside the house when emergency responders arrived, Fox News has reported.
The NASCAR community expressed condolences, noting Denny Hamlin’s accomplishments as a 60-time Cup Series winner and co-owner of 23XI Racing.
