President Donald Trump said the United States struck a dock in Venezuela where drugs were allegedly being loaded onto boats, describing a major explosion that destroyed the facility.
He previously claimed the U.S. had “knocked out” a large drug-related facility in Venezuela, though he provided no specific details about how the strike was carried out.
If accurate, the action would represent the first known U.S. land attack in Venezuela during his administration’s anti-drug campaign.
The U.S. has significantly increased pressure on Venezuela, including deploying troops and warships in the region and ordering a blockade of sanctioned oil tankers, ABC News has reported.
Trump has also suggested that Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro should step down, warning of severe consequences if he does not.
