A woman was killed in a suspected mountain lion attack while hiking alone on Crosier Mountain Trail south of Glen Haven in unincorporated Larimer County, authorities said.
Hikers discovered the woman around midday and scared off a nearby mountain lion, but a physician in the group found she had no pulse.
Colorado Parks and Wildlife, along with local law enforcement and firefighters, closed several trailheads and launched an extensive ground and aerial search.
Two mountain lions found near the scene were euthanized and will be examined to determine if they were involved in the attack, ABC 7 Denver has reported.
The incident marks the first fatal mountain lion attack in Colorado since 1999, highlighting the rare but serious risk of human-wildlife encounters.
