U.S. military action in Venezuela has renewed concerns about President Donald Trump’s interest in annexing Greenland, an autonomous Danish territory rich in rare earth minerals.
Denmark’s Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen warned that any U.S. attempt to seize Greenland by force would shatter decades of transatlantic and NATO security.
Trump said the U.S. needs Greenland for national security, citing Denmark’s inability to manage it, remarks that drew sharp rebukes from Greenland’s leaders, Euro News has reported.
Greenland Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen told Trump to stop pressuring the territory and reject any fantasies of annexation, while emphasizing openness to lawful dialogue.
