Lego announces Smart Brick, the ‘most significant evolution’ in 50 years

At CES 2026, Lego unveiled its new Smart Bricks, tech-packed 2×4-stud bricks with sensors, LEDs, speakers, and Bluetooth that can detect nearby bricks, tags, and minifigures.

The bricks feature accelerometers, synthesizers, ambient lights, and magnetic coils that sense proximity to Smart Tags and Star Wars Smart Minifigures, allowing interactive lights and sounds.

Star Wars sets with these smart bricks, including TIE Fighters and interactive minifigures, will arrive on March 1.

The Smart Bricks can recognize multiple objects simultaneously, track 3D distance, and even mirror each other’s behavior, offering possibilities for games or builds that respond dynamically, CNET has reported.

Lego calls this system Smart Play, enabling a distributed network of bricks for creative, interactive play across sets.
