New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced “Rental Ripoff” hearings to be held across all five boroughs within his first 100 days in office, aimed at tackling unfair housing practices.
The hearings will allow tenants to testify about issues such as unsafe conditions, hidden fees, and unaffordable rents.
Mamdani signed an executive order directing his Office of Mass Engagement and other city agencies to organize the hearings and later publish a report on findings and opportunities for reform.
He also appointed Dina Levy as commissioner of the Department of Housing Preservation and Development, praising her experience in affordable housing, CBS News has reported.
The initiative is part of Mamdani’s broader effort to give tenants a stronger voice and address the city’s housing crisis.
