Off-duty deputy shot and killed while working security job in Texas

An off-duty Caldwell County deputy was shot and killed while working security at Club Rodeo in north Austin early Sunday, authorities said.

Austin police responded just after 2 a.m. and found the deputy in the parking lot with trauma; he was transported to a hospital where he later died.

A suspect was apprehended later in the afternoon with the help of the U.S. Marshals Lone Star Fugitive Task Force, APD Air Support and K-9 units, and the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The investigation remains ongoing, and police are asking the public for help in identifying any additional witnesses or suspects, Fox News has reported.

Caldwell County officials have not released the deputy’s name, asking that the family’s privacy be respected as they mourn the loss.
