A Garden Grove police officer was critically injured after being struck by a car while chasing a suspect on foot in Orange County early Jan. 4.
The incident occurred around 12:04 a.m. near Brookhurst Street and Sanford Avenue after responding officers confronted 34-year-old Lonnie Johnson, who allegedly threatened a 7-Eleven clerk with a knife.
Bystander video shows the officer hit by a red BMW while Johnson fled the scene, narrowly avoiding vehicles.
The officer was taken to UC Irvine Medical Center in critical but stable condition, while the suspect was later apprehended in a nearby residential area and hospitalized, KTLA 5 has reported.
Johnson was booked on charges of assault with a deadly weapon and making criminal threats, and the investigation remains ongoing.
