President Donald Trump has ordered the United States to withdraw from 66 international organizations, including 31 UN agencies and 35 non-UN groups, accelerating the country’s retreat from multilateral cooperation.
The executive order directs U.S. departments to end participation in and funding for these organizations as soon as possible.
Many of the targeted bodies work on climate change, labor, migration, human rights, and other global policy areas the administration considers contrary to U.S. interests.
This follows earlier withdrawals from the Paris climate accord, the WHO, and UNESCO, along with cuts to UN funding, the DW has reported.
Trump has framed the move as prioritizing American sovereignty and economic interests while continuing to promote fossil fuel production domestically and abroad.
