US may be involved in Venezuela for years, Trump says

President Donald Trump said U.S. involvement in Venezuela could last for years after U.S. forces captured President Nicolás Maduro and his wife in a military operation.

Trump announced that the U.S. would effectively run the country, managing its affairs and oil reserves until a safe transition could be arranged.

He indicated that Venezuela would hand over 30 to 50 million barrels of oil to the U.S., with proceeds controlled by Washington but intended to benefit both Venezuelans and Americans.

Trump did not provide a specific timeline for elections or political transition, despite Maduro loyalists remaining in the interim government, Fox News has reported.

The move marks a historic shift in U.S. oversight of Venezuela, emphasizing long-term control over its oil resources and political direction.
