Indiana wins national drone test site designation

The Trump administration has designated Indiana as one of two new national drone test sites, alongside Oklahoma, a move expected to boost research, military training, and commercial drone development.

Sen. Todd Young, who led the effort, said the site will create high-paying jobs, expand military exercises, and support universities like Purdue in advancing drone technology.

Gov. Mike Braun hailed the designation as a major economic and defense win for the state, noting its potential to attract investment and position Indiana as a leader in drone innovation.

The site will include Purdue University, Camp Atterbury, and other facilities, with a focus on integrating unmanned aircraft systems safely into national airspace, Indiana Capital Chronicle has reported.

The new Indiana Initiative for Drone Dominance Task Force will coordinate state, university, and industry efforts, delivering a strategic plan by July 31.
