Kristi Noem threatens to send more ICE agents to Minneapolis as protests grow

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said Thursday that she is open to sending additional ICE agents to Minneapolis following nationwide protests sparked by the fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Macklin Good by an ICE agent.

Speaking at a press conference in New York, Noem declined to define what a federal “surge” in enforcement would involve, citing safety concerns for agents, but said thousands of officers were already deployed and more could be added.

The shooting occurred in a residential area of south Minneapolis that DHS had already flooded with more than 2,000 officers as part of the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown.

DHS defended the agent’s actions, with Noem labeling Good’s behavior an act of “domestic terrorism,” the Express has reported.

Minnesota officials have disputed that characterization, as protests over the killing continue to grow.
