Two shot by US Border Patrol agents in Portland

Two people were injured Thursday in a shooting involving a federal agent in Portland, Oregon, prompting the mayor to call for ICE operations to pause during the investigation.

DHS said the incident occurred during a targeted stop of a vehicle carrying a passenger allegedly linked to the Tren de Aragua gang, and an agent fired defensively after the driver tried to run over officers.

Portland police confirmed federal involvement but were not part of the shooting, and the victims drove themselves to a nearby apartment complex before being hospitalized.

Oregon Attorney General Dan Rayfield opened a state investigation into whether federal officers acted outside their legal authority, including witness interviews and video evidence, ABC News has reported.

Local leaders, including Mayor Keith Wilson and Gov. Tina Kotek, demanded transparency and calm while emphasizing the need for a thorough and independent inquiry.
