A man, Calor Madanescht, 48, was arrested in Los Angeles for allegedly driving a U-Haul truck into a group of protesters demonstrating against the Iranian government.
The incident occurred Sunday near the Federal Building in the “Tehrangeles” neighborhood, where demonstrators waved pre-revolution Iranian flags and called for an end to Iran’s regime.
Madanescht was booked for misdemeanor reckless driving with $0 bail and released the same day; his next court date is Feb. 2.
Police said the truck continued toward the crowd despite officers’ warnings, striking one person, though no serious injuries were reported, NBC News has reported.
Authorities searched the vehicle but found nothing significant, and the motive remains unclear, though the truck bore anti-Iranian regime slogans referencing the 1953 U.S.-backed coup.
