Renowned chef indicted for allegedly trying to rob 3 banks in day

Valentino Luchin, a 62-year-old former Bay Area chef, has been federally indicted for allegedly attempting to rob three San Francisco banks in a single day.

Police say he stole about $2,800 from two banks and failed at a third, and he was arrested at his home shortly afterward.

Luchin previously ran restaurants including Ottavio, which closed in 2016, leaving him in financial trouble and leading to a 2018 bank robbery in Orinda.

He has pleaded not guilty to the current charges, which a grand jury found sufficient to proceed to trial, the San Francisco Gate has reported.

Luchin is scheduled to return to court on February 13.
