Teen shot and killed in Chipotle bathroom near Temple University

A 16-year-old boy, Khyon Smith-Tate, was shot and killed Monday evening inside a Chipotle near Temple University in North Philadelphia.

Police say Khyon was in the restaurant with others when he went into the bathroom, where he was found with a gunshot wound to the chest and pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities have identified three teenage boys as possible suspects and have taken a person of interest into custody, offering a $20,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction.

Temple University students were warned to avoid the area, and the victim’s school, Imhotep Institute Charter High School, held grief and trauma sessions for students and staff, NBC 10 Philadelphia has reported.

Philadelphia officials, including District Attorney Larry Krasner, emphasized ongoing support for the community and a continued investigation into the deadly shooting.
