Two 14-year-old boys, George Watts and Derrick Hubbard, died after a sand hole they were digging at Sportsman Park in Inverness, Florida, collapsed and trapped them for over an hour.
Emergency responders pulled the boys from the hole and began CPR, but Derrick died on Sunday, and George died at the hospital on Tuesday.
Their families described them as best friends who shared a close bond and vibrant spirits.
The boys were students at Inverness Middle School, which offered counseling and support to students following the tragedy, ABC News has reported.
Authorities continue to investigate the incident, while the community mourns the loss of both children.
