Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey says federal agents are an “occupying force”

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey condemned the administration’s immigration operations in the city, describing the influx of federal agents as an “occupying force.”

He said the deployment of thousands of ICE and Border Patrol agents, along with the potential arrival of military troops, has increased fear rather than public safety.

Frey argued the operations target Latino and Somali communities and sparked peaceful protests following the fatal shooting of Renee Good by an ICE officer.

While federal officials said they aim to restore safety and urged cooperation, Frey rejected limits on protests and defended residents’ First Amendment rights, CBS News has reported.

He also voiced concern over reports that he and Minnesota’s governor are under federal investigation, warning that targeting elected officials for dissent threatens democracy.
