A Russian pro-Kremlin outlet released footage showing a Chinese-made laser weapon, the Silent Hunter (Low-Altitude Laser Defending System), being used against Ukrainian drones in Belgorod near the Ukraine border.
The video shows the turret-mounted system tracking and disabling a drone, operated by a Russian special operations unit called “Kochevnik.”
Silent Hunter is designed for short-range air defense, targeting small aerial threats with a 10-kilowatt directed-energy beam that can damage drones’ airframes, sensors, or propulsion.
This marks another appearance of the system in Russian service, highlighting Moscow’s continued reliance on foreign-made counter-drone technology, the Defense Blog has reported.
Variants of Silent Hunter have also been used by China, Iran, and Saudi Arabia as a cost-effective alternative to missile-based air defenses.
