Trump signs executive order barring Wall Street investors from buying single-family homes

President Trump signed an executive order Tuesday prohibiting large Wall Street investors from buying and owning single-family homes, aiming to make housing more affordable for American families.

The order cites competition from corporate investors as limiting access to homeownership, particularly for first-time buyers, and calls for Treasury, Justice, and other agencies to define “large institutional investors” and enforce antitrust rules against coordinated pricing or vacancy strategies.

Trump criticized the previous administration for high inflation and interest rates, saying these factors have made the “American Dream” of homeownership increasingly unattainable.

The move follows his earlier social media calls to ban investor purchases and push Congress to codify such protections, The Hill has reported.

The action is part of a broader GOP push ahead of the midterms to highlight housing affordability and economic achievements.
