Nekima Levy Armstrong, a prominent civil rights attorney, and at least two others were arrested for participating in an anti-immigration protest that disrupted a service at a Minnesota church.
The protesters targeted the church because one of its pastors also serves as a local ICE official and chanted slogans including “ICE out” and “Justice for Renee Good.”
The Justice Department opened a civil rights investigation following the disruption.
Vice President JD Vance called on state and local authorities to work with federal officials and urged protesters to stop interfering with enforcement, NPR has reported.
A judge rejected related charges against journalist Don Lemon, affirming his coverage of the protest was protected.
