Tensions between the United States and Canada escalated after Prime Minister Mark Carney declared a “rupture” in the global order during a speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos.

His remarks, including support for Greenland and opposition to U.S. tariffs, prompted a sharp response from President Trump, who accused Canada of being ungrateful and overly dependent on the U.S.

The public exchange marked a breakdown in what had been a cordial relationship between the two leaders.

Trump later disinvited Canada from his newly formed Board of Peace, which Ottawa had already viewed with skepticism, The Hill has reported.
