Ryan Wedding, the Canadian Olympic snowboarder turned alleged drug kingpin, has been arrested by Mexican authorities in cooperation with the FBI, ending a months-long manhunt.
Wedding, 44, was accused of running one of the world’s most violent and prolific drug-trafficking organizations, moving nearly 60 metric tons of cocaine annually from Mexico into Los Angeles.
He is also charged with ordering multiple murders, including that of an FBI witness and a couple killed by mistaken identity.
Wedding had been on the FBI’s 10 most wanted list since March, with a $15 million reward for information leading to his capture, and was reportedly protected by the Sinaloa cartel while in hiding, The Guardian has reported.
FBI Director Kash Patel and RCMP officials were involved in the operation, with Wedding now in U.S. custody.
