Trump’s NATO-Afghanistan comments ‘appalling’, says U.K.’s Keir Starmer

European veterans and politicians sharply criticized President Trump after he claimed allies had stayed “a little off the front lines” in Afghanistan.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer called the remarks “insulting and frankly, appalling,” while veterans highlighted that hundreds of their comrades died alongside U.S. forces.

Senior military figures and former intelligence officials condemned the comments as inaccurate and unjustified, urging an apology.

Trump’s remarks came amid broader tensions with Europe, including his interest in Greenland and criticism of NATO spending, NBC News has reported.

European countries, including Britain, Poland, Canada, France, and Denmark, suffered significant casualties during the Afghanistan mission, underscoring their contributions to the alliance.
