Rep. Maxwell Frost (D-FL) was punched in the face at a party during the Sundance Film Festival on Friday in what he says was a racially motivated attack.
The assailant reportedly made racist remarks and referenced deportation before fleeing, and was quickly arrested by police.
Frost, the first Gen Z and Afro-Cuban member of Congress, confirmed he is okay and thanked security and law enforcement for their response.
The Sundance Film Festival condemned the assault, calling violence and hate speech intolerable, even though the party was not festival-affiliated, Breitbart News has reported.
The incident has drawn attention to safety concerns at the festival, which runs through February 1 in Park City and Salt Lake City.
