Democratic Sen. John Fetterman has called on President Donald Trump to fire Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem amid bipartisan outrage over federal immigration operations in Minneapolis.
In a social media post, Fetterman said Noem was betraying DHS’s mission and harming Trump’s border security legacy, citing deaths linked to the enforcement actions.
His comments came a day after he urged federal agents to withdraw from Minneapolis.
Despite backing tougher immigration policies in the past, Fetterman said he supports separating DHS funding from a broader spending package to allow new oversight measures, USA Today has reported.
He added that he would not join most Democrats in blocking DHS funding outright, even as the dispute raises the risk of a government shutdown.
