Trump promises to ‘de-escalate’ Minnesota crisis after Alex Pretti shooting

President Donald Trump said his administration plans to “de-escalate” the crisis in Minnesota following the deaths of two U.S. citizens, including ICU nurse Alex Pretti, who was shot by federal Border Patrol officers over the weekend.

The killings occurred amid a sweeping federal immigration crackdown in Minneapolis that has sparked protests and tensions between state and federal authorities.

Pretti, who was legally carrying a gun, was filming officers when he was shot, and preliminary footage suggests he did not brandish his weapon during the encounter.

Trump maintained confidence in DHS Secretary Kristi Noem, despite her controversial comments labeling Pretti a “domestic terrorist” before investigations were complete, Al-Jazeera has reported.

Congressional notice confirmed that two federal officers fired Glock pistols during a struggle while attempting to take Pretti into custody, in compliance with reporting requirements for deaths in CBP custody.
