Trump sues IRS and Treasury for $10 billion over leaked tax information

President Donald Trump is suing the IRS and Treasury Department for $10 billion, alleging they failed to prevent leaks of his tax information to news outlets between 2018 and 2020.

The lawsuit, filed in Florida federal court, also names Eric Trump, Donald Trump Jr., and the Trump Organization as plaintiffs, claiming the leaks caused reputational and financial harm.

The disclosures were made by former IRS contractor Charles Edward “Chaz” Littlejohn, who pleaded guilty in 2024 and was sentenced to five years in prison for leaking records to The New York Times and ProPublica.

Trump’s filing argues the leaks hurt his public standing and support during the 2020 election, NPR has reported.

Littlejohn also stole tax records of other billionaires, prompting Treasury to cut contracts with his employer, Booz Allen Hamilton, citing inadequate safeguards.
