Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced that all ICE agents in Minneapolis will immediately start wearing body cameras, with plans to expand the program nationwide as funding allows.
The move comes after Republican Senator Ron Johnson expressed support for body cameras, a key Democratic demand for approving continued ICE funding.
Democrats, including Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries, are also pushing for an end to roving patrols, judicial warrants before home arrests, mask bans, proper identification, and a universal code of conduct for federal law enforcement.
The agency has faced criticism over patrols in Minneapolis following the fatal shootings of Alex Pretti and Renee Good, as well as arrests and pepper‑spraying of demonstrators, The Guardian has reported.
The Senate passed temporary funding measures, but House Democrats are expected to continue pushing for reforms before approving full funding for DHS.
