Trump signs bill to end shutdown

President Donald Trump signed a roughly $1.2 trillion funding bill that ended a partial federal government shutdown after the House narrowly approved the measure.

The legislation funds most federal agencies through Sept. 30 but only extends Department of Homeland Security funding for two weeks, setting up another looming budget fight.

Democrats are demanding tighter restrictions on immigration enforcement and have warned they will not support further short-term DHS funding without major changes.

Republican leaders expressed mixed optimism about reaching a deal before the Feb. 13 deadline, raising the possibility of another shutdown, Boston 25 News has reported.

While the bill avoided an omnibus package and limited spending cuts, the close votes highlighted deep partisan divisions and fragile bipartisan support.
