A bus returning from a religious festival in northeast Brazil overturned on a curve in Alagoas state, killing at least 16 people, including four children.
About 60 passengers were on board, with some ejected from the vehicle and others trapped under the wreckage.
Seven women and five men were among the fatalities, while survivors, including seriously injured children, were hospitalized.
The bus had been returning from the Our Lady of Candelaria festival in Ceara, and authorities described the accident as “highly complex,” Al-Jazeera has reported.
Brazil frequently experiences deadly road accidents, with more than 10,000 traffic deaths reported in 2024 alone.
