French prosecutors have summoned Elon Musk and former X CEO Linda Yaccarino for questioning in an investigation into the distribution of sexual deepfakes, Holocaust denial content, and other potential criminal offenses on X.
The Paris cybercrime unit, alongside French police and Europol, recently searched X’s offices as part of the probe, which also examines alleged child pornography, violations of personal rights, and fraudulent data extraction.
Musk and Yaccarino are expected to appear in Paris during the week of April 20, though it is unclear whether they can be compelled to attend.
X called the raid “abusive” and Musk described it as a “political attack,” amid ongoing scrutiny from European regulators over hate speech, misinformation, and AI-generated sexual content, NBC News has reported.
The investigation follows separate probes in the UK into the use of personal data in X’s Grok AI chatbot for generating sexualized deepfakes.
