White House launches direct-to-consumer drug site TrumpRx

President Donald Trump on Thursday launched TrumpRx, a direct-to-consumer platform aimed at lowering U.S. prescription drug costs.

The website does not sell drugs directly but connects patients to manufacturers offering discounts or provides coupons for pharmacies, with initial participation from AstraZeneca, Eli Lilly, EMD Serono, Novo Nordisk, and Pfizer.

Trump promoted the platform as a way for millions to save money, particularly cash-paying patients or those with limited insurance coverage.

Experts note that for many insured Americans, TrumpRx may offer little advantage, as purchases may not count toward deductibles or out-of-pocket limits, and many drugs are already covered or available as generics, CNBC has reported.

However, the platform could expand access to drugs less commonly covered, such as obesity treatments, which will soon be included in Medicare coverage through agreements with Lilly and Novo.
