Five ice skaters were rescued on Lake Champlain after becoming stranded on a drifting ice sheet on Tuesday.
A group of 10 had been skating when part of the ice separated from shore, leaving half the group trapped.
Witnesses alerted authorities, prompting Vermont State Police and the U.S. Coast Guard to respond with inflatable boats and kayaks to bring the skaters safely back to shore.
No injuries were reported, and all were reunited with friends and family, UPI has reported.
Officials warned that conditions on ice can change rapidly and urged caution, emphasizing that “no ice is safe ice.”
